The actuarial success rate of different urethroplasty procedures

Although the overall success rate of urethroplasty was 84.7%, in our experience end-to-end anastomoses failed in 30% of cases, but they represented a group of particularly complex referred cases. Since the resultes of one and two stage operations are similar, the cost-benefit ratio is clearly in favor of single-stage procedures. Our long time follow-up shows that urethral strictures may recur even a decade after surgery, and therefore they need to be followed for a lifetime.
